The One Thing That Reminds Me How Much I Love Being a Marriage Celebrant and Wedding DJ

Often when I'm meeting couples looking to book me as a marriage celebrant and wedding DJ, they'll tell me something like "we've got a friend who's a DJ, but we wanted them to just be able to enjoy the day." I totally get this, however…

My first gig as a marriage celebrant was for my cousin's wedding several years ago in Melbourne. The background photo from my website's homepage is from this day and it still might be my favourite photo from my time as a marriage celebrant. They'd decided to go with a band for their music, so I wasn't their wedding DJ that night.

As much fun as it was just having a dance with all the Melbourne family, I still spent a huge chunk of the night wishing I was the one playing the music and keeping everyone dancing! Having been the wedding DJ for a few friend's weddings, I can safely say that behind the decks is my favourite place to be at a wedding. When the job is done right, it's the centre of the party, and it rarely feels like 'work.'

My little sister (pictured above left) will be getting married to one of my best mates soon, and I can't wait to be their marriage celebrant and wedding DJ, just as I was for my older sister's wedding to one of my oldest friends over a decade ago - the first time I was ever a wedding DJ. I love being responsible for both the moment of commitment and the party that follows, and even though it might be easier to be a guest, it most certainly is less fun.

So, what’s the one thing that reminds me how much I love being a marriage celebrant and wedding DJ? It’s that even though it’s work, I’d rather be doing my job at a wedding than be ‘off the clock.’
